COMPARATIVE ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF SEVEN DISINFECTANTS MARKETTED IN LAGOS AGAINST CLINICAL BACTERIA ISOLATES

Antimicrobial effects of seven disinfectants were studied against a wide range clinical bacterial isolates using Agar dilution method to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The active compounds according their manufacturer D1-(Chloroxylenol 4.8% w/v), D2-(Chlorhexidinegluconate 0.3g and Centrimide 3.0% D3- (Centrimide w/v Chlorhexidinegluconate 0.3g), D4- (Dichloroxylenol 2% D5- (Sodium hypochlorite 3.85% m/v) D6- (Halogenated phenol 0.68% Sodium salicylate 0.052%). test organisms Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi. MICs ranges from 0.003%v/v 2.5%v/v. This study showed that some tested have strong bactericidal effect bacteria while others less effective.
